The Rural Women’s Alliance for Life Land and Dignity
The Rural Women’s Alliance for Life
Land
and Dignity is made up of women speaking eight different languages from
53 rural communities in five regions of Guatemala. While each organization
works with common objectives, themes, support groups, and strategies, each
maintains their own methods of work and identity. Recently, they have defined
their goals for the next three years as taking collective action in relation
to land rights, and political formation and participation of rural and indigenous
women focused on rural development and agricultural reform.
Heidi and Aura come from the Pacific Coast of Guatemala, and have long held
interests in health issues and community development. In response to Hurricane
Stan, they both began volunteering what free time they could find to rebuilding
their community and helping those suffering from the consequences of the
disaster. They

Ulew Che’ Ja’ Association
The
Ulew Che’ Ja’ Association is a representative body of the
rural communities of the municipality of Totonicapan, Guatemala that unites
forces in the conservation of natural resources, especially in the areas
of forest and water protection. The association is organized to promote
community participation in the use of local forests based on programs
of conservation, reforestation, and environmental education in order to
secure a physical space in harmony with the perfection of Mother Earth
for future generations. They work to provide and produce clean air and
water, medicinal plants, and other traditional resources within the community.
