Hector Gallego Foundation
The
Hector Gallego Foundation is a non-profit organization made up of campesinos,
professionals and agricultural producers, and believers in a church model
that benefit the poor, community development, and economic solidarity. It
was founded in 1968 by the Popular Christian Movement, and organized by
Father Jesus Hector Gallego. Their vision is to be a holistic organization,
a leader in human transformation, and to participate in the development
of programs and projects of socio-economic development that are humanitarian,
productive, and ecologically sustainable in Panama. In their mission, the
Hector Gallego Foundation looks to be facilitators in the development of
educational programs for men, women, youth, and children. They create professional
opportunities, promote economic projects, implement systems of organic agriculture,
promote economic solidarity, environmental conservation and ecotourism,
explore market opportunities and communication systems with an exchange
of experiences. This development, with active, affective, and conscientious
participation on behalf of the directors and members of the organization
and community will help meet the needs of the poorest people in the region.
Some of the community services they offer are courses on business and organization
management, computer training, and organic agriculture and environmental
health.
CEPAS-CARITAS is a Christian entity responsible for the dimension of social
justice and solidarity in the Diocese of Santiago de Veraguas in Panama.
In this mostly rural province, the Veraguense Church looks to especially
serve the campesino and indigenous population. With this objective, CEPAS
was founded as a center to study the social reality and assist community
members in the search for alternatives that produce the necessary changes
for a more just and egalitarian country. Their gospel incorporates the prophetic,
liturgical, and social dimensions of the Church and engages all of this
with the life of the pueblo. They believe that a true Christian connects
their religion with practices of solidarity and the search for peace and
justice. Their mission is in accordance with the Latin American Bishops
who gathered in Medellin in 1968 that declared the role of the Church as
working for the poor and excluded. In addition to social, cultural, and
spiritual education, CEPAS works on community projects in the areas of agriculture,
sustainable production, clean water, rural communication, alternative and
natural medicines and more.
